The following is an editorial written by Mason Teixiera ’23, originally featured in The Talon, Bishop Hendricken’s student newspaper
Allow me to go two years into the past, when I was in seventh grade: I had no clue as to where I would go for high school, and it seemed like a colossal, daunting question to me.
At that time, I had never heard of Bishop Hendricken High School. Then, one day in the eighth grade, our class went to Hendricken to see The Hunchback of Notre Dame musical, and that was the day I knew I would go there. It wasn’t completely smooth sailing at first, and I started the year in a cluttered mess, losing my English textbook here and misplacing my gym kit there. There were also a few times in September when I questioned whether I had made the right choice in choosing my high school. But after a few weeks, I got accustomed to the great journey that is high school, and I realized that I was absolutely meant to be here.
My Acting/Improv elective was my favorite class by far, and I’ve made some great friends and memories already with the other students in it. I also really enjoyed Olympic Day, where I got to participate in an improv competition, and I ran a track race! Both the Welcome Back Mixer and Homecoming were awesome, and I got to spend some time dancing with my friends. I have also been given opportunities to shadow other people in Art Academies, such as Media Arts and Visual Art, and I enjoyed shadowing these classes a lot. One thing I am looking forward to is the clubs and extracurricular activities here at Hendricken, which I am trying out this semester. I was excited to be able to participate in auditions for The Great Gatsby, which I was inspired to try out for after watching All Shook Up, which I highly enjoyed.
All in all, everyone here at Hendricken has been incredibly welcoming, and I truly feel like I am part of the Hawk family. I’m very glad that I will get to spend the next four years as a Hendricken man!
