Joe Mazzulla ’06 officially named Boston Celtics’ Head Coach

BOSTON, MA (February 16, 2023) – Bishop Hendricken High School congratulates Joe Mazzulla ’06 on his appointment as 19th head coach of the Boston Celtics. Mazzulla was announced as the official position holder by the Celtics this morning.

“The entire Hendricken community joins to celebrate and congratulate Coach Mazzulla on his new role,” said Fr. Robert L. Marciano, KHS ’75, President. “On a recent visit to Hendricken to speak with our Leadership Academy, his very first stop was the school chapel to offer a prayer of thanksgiving to God for his faith and his Hendricken foundation. He makes us proud each day as a true Hawk! All the best for much success to Coach, his Celtics, and his wonderful family.”

“This is a very special day for Joe, his family, the town of Johnston, and Bishop Hendricken High School,” said Jamal Gomes ’91, Athletic Director and Mazzulla’s high school basketball coach. “As one of his former coaches and mentors, this is one of the proudest days of my life. But, as great as this day is, the best is still yet to come for Joe Mazzulla.”

“What joy among the Hendricken family today,” said Fr. Marcel Taillon, former Bishop Hendricken Chaplain and Mazzulla’s high school priest. “Coach Mazzulla is right for the job, not only because of the Celtics’ record, but his ability to form the whole person whom he leads. His faith life, his family life, and his deep gratitude for all he has received makes his life a response instead of a job. Go Celtics; all Hawks are quality one!”
