WARWICK, RI (July 27, 2022) – The following is a message from Fr. Marciano ’75 and Mr. DeCiccio ’03 on the passing of former Bishop Hendricken faculty member, Mr. Wayne Gage P’06:
It is with profound sadness that we share with the Bishop Hendricken community the passing of longtime faculty member, Mr. Wayne Gage P’06. Mr. Gage passed away this afternoon at Rhode Island Hospital.
An educator for over 25 years, Mr. Gage began teaching at Bishop Hendricken in 1995 until his retirement in 2018. Throughout his career, he was an iconic staple of the Social Studies Department, teaching European History, World Cultures, and introducing Bishop Hendricken’s first African American history course. He also served as a guidance counselor and moderator of Model Legislature and Student Council. Prior to Hendricken, he spent time teaching in the East Providence School District.
Most importantly, Mr. Gage was a great confidant to hundreds of students. Those who knew him knew how passionate he was about teaching. He challenged students and held them accountable in a way that taught them not only how to appreciate learning, but how to be a good citizen.
The prayers of the Bishop Hendricken family are with Mr. Gage’s wife, Nancy; his son, Chris ’06; his daughter, Lauren; and his grandson, James; and the entire Gage family. We will keep our community updated of any funeral arrangements and services as they are released.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.
Live, Jesus, in our hearts. Forever.
