Richard Sylvia and Christian Kabbas ’14 appointed to Admissions Office

WARWICK, RI (August 11, 2022) – Mark DeCiccio ’03, Principal, is pleased to announce changes to the Admissions Office at Bishop Hendricken High School. Effective immediately, Richard Sylvia, Dean of Campus Life, and Christian Kabbas ’14, Director of Communications & Marketing, will lead Bishop Hendricken’s recruitment and enrollment efforts as Directors of Admissions for the 2022-2023 Academic Year. Jacqueline White has been promoted to Assistant Director of Admissions.

“Richie and Christian are uniquely positioned to lead the Admissions Office for the school year,” said DeCiccio. “Both are experts in their craft, deeply understand the Hendricken culture, and most importantly, are tremendously involved in every aspect of the experience. With Jackie as Assistant Director, we’re confident this team will attract future Hawks to Hendricken with their unmatched enthusiasm, passion, and attentiveness.”

This fall, Sylvia enters his 13th year at Bishop Hendricken. Since 2010, he’s served as Director of Arts, as well as Drama Program Coordinator and Vocal Music Program Coordinator. In 2021, he was added to the School Leadership Team as Dean of Campus Life, responsible for ensuring a positive and well-rounded Hendricken experience for students and faculty outside of the classroom. As Dean, his focus includes student activities, clubs, organizations, events, and programming. As he steps down from his position as Director of Arts, Sylvia will expand his involvement in the school’s major external affairs, including Admissions and Advancement & Development efforts. He will remain Vocal Program Coordinator and teaches performing arts and music courses.

“Our Admissions team is looking forward to meeting with families and sharing the Hendricken story,” Sylvia said. “We’re excited to introduce the next generation of young men into the brotherhood here.”

Kabbas, a 2014 alumnus, enters his 5th year as a staff member. As Director of Communications & Marketing, Kabbas leads all storytelling, branding, and promotion efforts across all platforms and media. His experience includes public relations, advertising, social media, digital media, video production, photography, and more. Kabbas has previously worked as an Admissions Associate, conducting school visits, offering campus tours, representing Bishop Hendricken at school fairs, and reviewing applicant files. He also teaches a technical theater course and a marketing class.

“We know choosing a high school is a big decision for families,” said Kabbas. “Our goal is to help make that process as explorative and helpful as possible, and through the process, we’re confident students will find a home here at 2615 Warwick Avenue.”
