Bishop Hendricken – RI’s Mythological Phoenix
The myth of the Phoenix is often associated with themes of hope, transformation, and overcoming adversity. Such is the best way I can describe my sixteen-year association with this outstanding educational institution.
Over those years, interacting with countless hundreds of students and parents—together with dedicated administrations, faculty, and staff—our Hendricken Phoenix rose from the ashes to become not only a force with which to contend in Rhode Island, but also a highly respected high school throughout New England.
And what would be the best words to describe that memorable experience? Without hesitation: camaraderie and commitment on the part of all players involved.
From day one of my very fortunate association with BH until my physical departure sixteen years later, these words best reflect the memories of that experience.
Yes, my prior and subsequent assignments in East Harlem, the South Bronx, and Hell’s Kitchen on NYC’s 51st Street were equally memorable. But those qualities of camaraderie and commitment were unmatched while at Bishop Hendricken.
