“I was searching for an answer to a question that clouded my mind for numerous days and nights.

Where would Stephen best be suited for his high school education?

When I walked through the doors of Hendricken, I felt a sense of peace. Stephen and I were invited to the gym for a Unified basketball game where we met many wonderful teachers and staff. I remember standing back and observing what a special environment this would be for him, but when I heard the cost of tuition for the Options Program, I had to realign myself. My husband and I were yearning for Stephen to attend Bishop Hendricken…but with three other boys, it just didn’t seem realistic. So I prayed.

When we were notified that a benefactor had come forward, it was a moment in time my husband and I will never forget. Danielle and Mike Haxton ’78 helped make our dream possible. Thanks to the Haxtons, Stephen is now in a place that not only educates his mind, but nourishes his heart and soul. There is not a day that goes by where I don’t reflect on how fortunate we are for their generosity. If I could say one thing to the Haxtons it would be “from the bottom of my heart, thank you for answering my prayers and changing the course of Stephen’s life.’”

– Kerry Baker, mother of Stephen ’20

That’s what Danielle and Mike Haxton ’78 did to make a difference in the life of a Hawk. What can you do to show you care?
