Warwick, RI (January 27, 2026) – Bishop Hendricken High School is proud to announce that Coach Jim Doyle has been named Rhode Island 2025 Boys’ Cross Country Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Country Coaches Association. This is the fifth consecutive year that Coach Doyle has received this award. The award is presented to the Head Coach of the State Championship Team for Cross Country & Track. Coach Doyle has been a head coach of Cross Country, Indoor Track & Field, And Outdoor Track & Field for 42 years, 32 of those years at Bishop Hendricken High School. His teams in Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track have won a combined total of 71 Rhode Island State Championships. The 71 state championships represent the second most state championships for all head coaches in the United States. In 2018, Coach Doyle was Named the National Coach Of The Year by The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association after the Hawks Cross Country Team Finished 4th at the Nike U.S A. High School National Championship.
This year, under Coach Doyle’s leadership, Bishop Hendricken won the Class A Track & Field Championship, securing the Hawks’ 35th title and achieving the team’s third-best average in program history. The team also became New England Champions, marking the 13th time in program history and the first since 2012. Coach Doyle’s impact extends beyond team achievements. He has guided countless athletes to surpass both school and personal records this season. Notably, Colby Flynn ’27 set new school records in the mile and 3,000 meters and broke a 26-year-old record in the 1,500 meters. Freshman Jacoby Joyce ’29 set two long-standing freshman records this season, including a 42-year-old record in the long jump. Through his dedication, Coach Doyle continues to help his athletes make history.
