Christopher Sheehan, Sr. ’64 to receive Chairman’s Award at Epoch: The 2024 Gala for Hendricken

WARWICK, RI (April 5, 2024) – Fr. Robert L. Marciano, KHS ’75, President, is pleased to announce that Bishop Hendricken High School will honor Christopher Sheehan, Sr. ’64 for his years of dedicated service to Bishop Hendricken High School at Epoch: The 2024 Gala for Hendricken presented by Flood Auto Group on Saturday, April 27, 2024. The evening will begin at 6pm. Honors presentation will take place at 8:30pm.

During the gala, Justice Francis X. Flaherty ’64, Chair of the Board of Advisors, will present Sheehan with the Bishop Hendricken Chairman’s Award which is presented each year to a member of the Hendricken community who has dedicated themselves to serving our school and its mission. Sheehan is only the second individual to ever receive the award.

“We are delighted to present the prestigious Chairman’s Award to Chris Sheehan, Sr. who lends his time, talent, and decades of knowledge to make our facilities the showplaces that they are,” said Fr. Marciano. “You can always find Chris out on campus manicuring the lawns, supervising, and planning projects — just look for the Hendricken hat and a smile attached. How fitting that Justice Flaherty, Chris’ classmate and lifelong friend, is the one to recognize his dedication, hard work, and faith. Our sincere congratulations to a valued Hawk who makes us proud every day!”

After graduating from Bishop Hendricken, Sheehan Sr. served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and rose the rank of Sergeant. After serving his country, Sheehan Sr. began an impressive career at Stop & Shop. He started as a clerk and meat cutter and rose to become corporate’s senior national meat buyer. After retiring in 2006, Sheehan Sr. returned to Hendricken to give back to his alma mater, all while refusing a salary. From manning the Hungry Hawk to serving on the Board of Directors and becoming the Director of Maintenance, Sheehan Sr. has made a noticeable and tangible impact on Bishop Hendricken’s building and grounds, overseeing crucial updates such as the installation of the turf field, enhancements to the athletics complex, and key renovations to spaces like the Collaborative Learning Center, locker rooms, and offices.

Christopher Sheehan, Sr. ’64 and his family will be in attendance to accept his award. Tickets for Epoch: The 2024 Gala for Hendricken are on sale now at hendricken.com/epoch.
