WARWICK, RI – The following is a message from Fr. Robert L. Marciano, KHS ’75, President, in reflection of Memorial Day and next week’s prayer service:
This weekend, our nation pauses to thank and remember the brave men and women who have worn the uniform of our nation, and to thank and remember their families.
From the very beginning of this Republic, we have been united in our gratitude to Almighty God for this nation that He gave to us as our home. From a kneeling General George Washington in the snows of Valley Forge in a war that could have easily been lost, to the young men and women here and around the globe, including many of our own alumni who lean on their faith in times of peace and conflict. The powerful posture of prayer reminds us that “America never stands taller than when She is on her knees in prayer.”
In the days ahead, with celebrations of every kind, please take a moment to prayerfully remember those who have left these shores for a distant and heavenly home, most especially, those Hawks who made the ultimate sacrifice: 2Lt. Richard D. McKenzie ’63 (Vietnam 1969), Cpt. Matthew J. August ’93 (Iraq 2004), and LCpl. Eric P. Valdepeñas ’03 (Iraq 2006). We pledged to them, and to their families, that we would never forget them and that is a pledge that we will always honor.
Please join us on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 1pm in the War Memorial Prayer Garden as we welcome Brigadier General Andrew J. Chevalier ’86 as our keynote speaker and our guest of honor at a brief prayer service. May God continue to bless you and bless America, the land of the free, because of the brave. Many thanks to each of you for all that you do each day here in Hawk country.
