Mr. DeCiccio ’03 announces School Leadership Team

Three faculty members added to leadership roles in student support and success

WARWICK, RI (June 16, 2021) – Today, Mr. Mark R. DeCiccio ’03, Principal, announces the addition of three faculty members to Bishop Hendricken High School’s Leadership Team beginning fall 2021: Ms. Sarah Murray as Dean of Teaching and Learning, Mr. Christopher Sheehan ’09 as Dean of Strategic Leadership and Grade 8, and Mr. Richard Sylvia as Dean of Campus Life.

All three additions have classroom roots as teachers, have served at Bishop Hendricken since the beginning of their careers, and come from unique perspectives of the student experience. Their duties are expanded to serve on the School Leadership Team which aims to provide more support, resources, and accessibility for students, faculty, staff, and parents to better ensure a positive school experience for all.

“As a school, we are committed to leadership that not only serves as a vehicle to support our community, but is also well-rounded in addressing all facets of education,” said DeCiccio. “Our mission is to develop the whole person: heart, mind, body, and soul. The individuals who will serve on this team have unique expertise that contribute to our community’s growth in each.”

As Dean of Teaching and Learning, Murray will oversee the INSPIRE Program and collaboratively work with faculty, staff, and administrators on best practices for the classroom, including technology, methodology, and pedagogy. Murray has been at the helm of INSPIRE’s conception, design, and framework for the past 3 years. In this position, Murray becomes only the second female academic administrator in Bishop Hendricken’s 62-year history. As Dean, she will also remain a teaching member of the English Department.

Sheehan will serve as Dean of Strategic Leadership and Grade 8. In this role, he will focus on a whole-of-school approach to leadership, providing new opportunities for both students and faculty. His primary responsibilities will include leading the strategic plan which will be unveiled in the fall, instructing the Leadership Academy, coordinating faculty professional development, and serving as Dean of Students for Grade 8. Sheehan will also continue to serve as Assistant Athletic Director.

Rounding out the additions is Sylvia as Dean of Campus Life. In this role, Sylvia will be responsible for ensuring a positive and well-rounded Hendricken experience for students and faculty outside of the classroom, particularly in the school’s return to full operation in the fall. His focus will be coordination of all student activities, clubs, organizations, events, and programming. Sylvia will also remain the Director of Arts and Vocal Music Program Coordinator.

As previously announced, Mrs. Natalie Kessimian serves as Assistant Principal. Mr. James Pierce and Mr. Michael Monahan ’98 will continue their service as Deans of Students with emphases on student safety, upholding the code of conduct, and daily operations as it pertains to each grade level. Pierce will serve grades 11-12, while Monahan will transition to grades 9-10.
