Statement from Fr. Marciano ’75 on the Passing of Mayor Joseph Solomon

Mayor Joseph Solomon P’01, member of Bishop Hendricken’s Board of Advisors, passes

WARWICK, RI (May 20, 2021) – The following is a statement from Fr. Robert L. Marciano, KHS ’75 on the passing of former Warwick Mayor Joseph Solomon:

“We join our Warwick neighbors and the Rhode Island community today in mourning the loss of former Mayor Joseph J. Solomon, Sr. P’01, a member of Bishop Hendricken High School’s Board of Advisors. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Cynthia; his son, Representative Joseph J. Solomon, Jr., a 2001 graduate of Bishop Hendricken; and the entire Solomon family.

Since our days together as members of the Providence College Class of 1979 to the day of his passing, Mayor Solomon has been a good and cherished friend. His deep Catholic faith and commitment to the Church enabled him to be a public servant for over 40 years with his family always at the center of his focus. Bishop Hendricken High School mourns his loss with special gratitude for his years of service as a member of our Board of Advisors.

Mayor Solomon dedicated his life to the Warwick community, a place he called home for more than 40 years. Over the past two decades, Solomon dutifully served the public as municipal judge, city councilperson, city council president, and of course, mayor.

Mayor Solomon was also a fervent supporter of Bishop Hendricken High School and Catholic education. In a letter, he wrote: ‘As a proud parent of a successful Hendricken graduate, I know firsthand the tremendous work the faculty and staff do to prepare their students to live productive and fulfilling lives based on the values of faith, family, and community.’ Mayor Solomon was also a communicant of Saints Kevin, Benedict, and George’s parishes.

Our sympathies to Cindy and Joseph, and the pledge of our prayers for the repose of his soul. May he rest in peace.”
