Statement on Warwick neighborhood incident

WARWICK, RI (March 21, 2024) – The following is a statement from Fr. Robert L. Marciano, KHS ’75, President, on the shooting in Warwick this morning:

As a school community proudly located in Warwick, we join our neighbors in expressing our deepest condolences for the senseless violence that took place this morning on Frawley Street. The prayers of our entire Bishop Hendricken family are with the families and neighbors impacted by this tragedy.

Warwick is a beautifully close-knit and resoundingly resilient community. In the face of hardship, we must lean on our fellowship, faith, and camaraderie. Now, and each day, make it your mission to be there for someone else.

At Bishop Hendricken, our top priority is ensuring the safety of our students, faculty, and staff. I want to make clear that there was never any threat or safety concern on or near our campus this morning. As a reminder to our school community and neighbors, if you see something out of the ordinary or concerning, please say something.

As the proud chaplain of the Warwick Police and Fire Departments and a first responder, I also express our community’s immense gratitude for the brave men and women who work to serve and protect Warwick daily. We keep them and their families in our daily prayers.

In closing, as we mourn with our neighbors, I share this prayer with you:

Dear Lord,

We come to You with heavy hearts. We ask for Your healing as we continue the mission for peace within our communities. This mission calls for an end to violence throughout our land and in our hearts.

We ask for a peace that “surpasses all understanding and that you guard our hearts and minds in Christ” (Philippians 4:6).

May we hold the pain, confusion, anger, and sadness in our hearts and our prayers as we support one another.

We pray for eternal rest for those who have died. We pray for the consolation of their families and friends. We pray for healing and peace in our world.

Amen. Live, Jesus, in our hearts. Forever.
