WARWICK, RI – The Bishop Hendricken High School Cross Country team has capped off an extraordinary season, earning both the Rhode Island State Championship and the New England Championship, while achieving recognition among the nation’s elite programs. The Hawks are currently ranked #17 in the nation and #2 in the Northeast region, which includes all of New England, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
This year’s state championship marks the 29th in program history and the fifth consecutive title. Hendricken’s victory at the 2025 New England Championship, the team’s 13th overall and first since 2012, further solidifies its legacy as the most decorated program in the meet’s history, which dates back to 1935.
In addition to those titles, the Hawks also captured the Class A Championship and the Suburban Division Championship, showcasing their consistency and depth across all levels of competition.
The team was led by captains Jacob Silva, David Hayes, and Fred Russell, with junior standout Colby Flynn emerging as one of the state’s top competitors. Flynn finished runner-up at the Rhode Island State Meet, while senior David Hayes placed third and went on to become Hendricken’s top finisher at the New England Championships, placing fourth overall.

The team’s incredible depth has been a key to its success. The second seven runners, those just beyond the varsity lineup, played a pivotal role in the program’s dual meet victories and qualification for the state meet, finishing the season with the fourth fastest 5K team average in Rhode Island.
