WARWICK, RI (April 25, 2024) – Fr. Robert L. Marciano, KHS ’75, President, is proud to announce that Daniel D’Alessio ’24 has been named Bishop Hendricken High School’s 2024 Man of the Year. The honor was announced this morning following schoolwide Mass.
The Bishop Hendricken Man of the Year award is the highest honor bestowed on a student. Man of the Year is presented annually to a graduating senior who truly exemplifies the ideals of a Hendricken man: academic success commensurate with his ability, positive attitude toward the Hendricken code of conduct, dedication to service, involvement in the extracurricular life of the school, and strong relationships with those in the school and local communities. The award has been given each year since Bishop Hendricken’s first graduating class in 1962. The Man of the Year is chosen by the graduating class and faculty.
“Daniel has a burning desire and inspiring aptitude to make communities like Bishop Hendricken better,” said Fr. Marciano. “He is a faith-filled, standout student who continually uses his ideas to improve school culture. Most importantly, Daniel is always there for our school. From admissions events to fundraisers and community events, he is a relentless servant leader who truly understands the value of a Hendricken education and serves as an ambassador for it.”
An exceptional student, D’Alessio has earned admission to top colleges, including Harvard University, University of Notre Dame, and University of Pennsylvania, among others. A career member of the President’s List at Bishop Hendricken, he is ranked 1st in the Class of 2024 with a 3.97 GPA in a full Advanced Placement (AP) and honors course load. D’Alessio is a National Merit Commended Scholar, AP Scholar with Honor, Rhode Island Civic Leadership Award honoree, Rhode Island General Treasurer’s Young Leader Award recipient, and Claiborne Pell Medal awardee. He has been inducted into the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and the Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society. As a junior, D’Alessio earned the Harvard and Br. Vincent G. McNally Spanish Book Awards.
A force for building community, D’Alessio has taken charge of enhancing student culture, climate, and spirit. Elected Student Body Vice President, D’Alessio has stewarded schoolwide events like Olympic Day and Clash of the Classes. This fall, he co-hosted and developed iHawk Radio, Bishop Hendricken’s first-ever podcast for prospective and incoming students. D’Alessio has been a member of the Leadership Academy, Ambassadors Club, Mock Trial, Peer Mentors, Peer Ministry, and Stock Market Club. A strong advocate for servant leadership, he participated in the Brownsville, Texas mission trip in 2022. Outside of Hendricken, D’Alessio volunteers for the Coventry/West Greenwich Lions Club.
D’Alessio came to Bishop Hendricken as part of the 8th Grade SELECT program after attending Alan Shawn Feinstein Middle School in Coventry. He plans to pursue a business-related course of study at the University of Notre Dame.
As Man of the Year, D’Alessio will speak at Academic Honors Convocation on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 and Senior Breakfast on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
