WARWICK, R.I. — Bishop Hendricken High School is proud to recognize Danu Kim ’27 for a remarkable series of academic accomplishments that have earned him recognition at both the state and national levels.
Kim was recently named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist, placing him among just 54 students selected across the state of Rhode Island. The distinction recognizes some of the nation’s highest-achieving high school students and places Kim in consideration for National Merit Scholarships awarded later in the academic year.
The National Merit recognition adds to an already impressive list of accomplishments for Kim. He was also recently selected as one of only 10 semifinalists from Rhode Island for the Coca-Cola Scholars Program. Nationally, just 1,227 students advanced to the semifinalist stage from a pool of more than 113,000 applicants, representing an advancement rate of approximately 1.08 percent.
Earlier this year, Kim was named a 2026 Carson Scholar, earning a scholarship through the Carson Scholars Fund and bringing additional national recognition to Bishop Hendricken. As part of the honor, the school received a trophy recognizing Kim’s achievement and his representation of Hendricken within the program.
Kim also participated in the prestigious Research Science Institute (RSI), an intensive summer research program that brings together some of the world’s most accomplished high school students for advanced scientific research. During the program, Kim conducted research in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence through the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Following his participation in RSI, Kim’s accomplishments were recognized by leaders throughout Rhode Island and the federal government, including U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner, U.S. Senator Jack Reed, U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, and Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee. Kim was also previously selected as one of just 100 Coolidge Senators nationwide from a pool of more than 5,000 applicants, adding another prestigious national distinction to his growing list of academic achievements.
Kim’s accomplishments reflect Bishop Hendricken’s continued commitment to providing students with opportunities to challenge themselves academically, pursue their interests at the highest level, and prepare for success beyond high school. From national scholarship programs to advanced research opportunities, his achievements serve as an example of the academic excellence and ambition found throughout the Bishop Hendricken community.
