Congratulations to coach Jim Creamer ’85, assistant coaches Rick Angeli ’84, Patrick Creamer ’87, Bob Gribbon, James Rickard ’82 and the varsity hockey team on winning the state championship over rival La Salle Academy! It’s the second consecutive state title for the Hawks as they beat Mount St. Charles in last year’s finals. The title marks Hendricken’s fifth in school history and third since 2011.
Hendricken senior tri-captain, Patrick Creamer, earned Most Valuable Player honors for the second straight season.
The No. 1 seeded Hawks defeated the No. 2 Rams 5-4, in a widely entertaining, back and forth double overtime thriller in game one of the best-of-three state title series at Brown University’s Meehan Auditorium. Creamer scored the game winner in the second overtime off of a rebound in the slot.
Up 1-0 in the series, Hendricken clinched the championship the next nigh with a 3-1 victory at Meehan Auditorium. Senior Andrew Hopgood iced the game and the series with an empty-netter in the final minute.
