Summer Stage at Bishop Hendricken announces 2018 season

2018 season highlighted by Tony Award-winning musical, new camp offerings

WARWICK, RI – Summer Stage at Bishop Hendricken is proud to announce its 2018 season, highlighted by its 19th annual mainstage production of Urinetown, the addition of the Kent County Summer Youth Wind Ensemble and the Summer Stage Institute, and the re-vamping of its summer youth theatre offerings.

About Urinetown:
Urinetown will play the Dr. Daniel S. Harrop Theater on the Bishop Hendricken campus from August 2-5, 2018. The production will be spearheaded by a creative team featuring Summer Stage at Bishop Hendricken alumni currently pursuing the arts, and experienced theatrical professionals. Mr. Richard Sylvia, Director of Arts, and Peter Mancuso ’15, Summer Stage alumnus and program teaching artist, will direct the production. Other members of the production staff include: Ms. Teresa Pearson, Mrs. Carrie Devanney, Ryan Cox ’14, and Matthew Beaune ’16.

Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards, Urinetown is an hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself!

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring this insanely hilarious and relevant show to life this summer,” said Peter Mancuso ’15. “Now more than ever, it is so important to stand up for what you believe in. Urinetown is so different from other shows that we’ve done, yet feels like the perfect fit for our students. I can’t wait to see them make it their own.”

About 2018 Camps & Workshops:

Summer Stage at Bishop Hendricken is proud to have developed an exciting new line-up of camps and workshops for young student artists of all grade levels and abilities. Returning this season is Summer Stage Show Choir, Summer Screen, and a re-envisioned Summer Stage Workshop. New this year, the program will offer the Kent County Summer Youth Wind Ensemble, the Summer Stage Institute, and Summer on the Stage!

All aimed at helping to develop the talents and skill set of young artists in a positive environment, each of Summer Stage’s camp offerings focus on different concentrations of the art experience: show choir performance, theatre, film, and instrumental music. At the conclusion of each program, students will have the opportunity to showcase their hard work and talents for family, friends, and the community. All six programs have varying age ranges, tuition costs, and dates. For more information, please visit our website: hendricken.com/summerstage.

“We’ve spent a lot of time developing a line-up that will not only expose our students to different areas of the arts, but also include opportunities for students at all age levels and abilities,” said Mr. Richard Sylvia, Director of Arts. “We’re all looking forward to this season and the new opportunities ahead!”

All six programs are offered by a professional staff of artists, including Summer Stage at Bishop Hendricken alumni now pursuing the arts.
