Arts at Bishop Hendricken earns Outstanding Ensemble in Ocean State Star Awards

WARWICK, RI (May 8, 2023) – The Arts at Bishop Hendricken is proud to announce that the cast of The Drowsy Chaperone has been selected as Outstanding Ensemble as part of the 2nd Annual Ocean State Star Awards presented by the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC). Additionally, several members of the production’s cast and creative team were selected as winners in their respective categories

The following individuals were selected by a panel of PPAC adjudicators among nominees from across the state of Rhode Island:

  • Justin Estrada ’24 – Outstanding Supporting Performer
  • Zoe Clay – Outstanding Supporting Performer
  • Nicolas Cappalli ’24 – Outstanding Acting Performer
  • Massimo Papa ’24 – Outstanding Dance Performer
  • Zachary Young ’24 – Outstanding Dance Performer
  • Jade Genga – Outstanding Choreographer
  • Patrick Cavanagh ’25 – Rising Star Recognition
  • Calista Aguinaldo – Rising Star Recognition

“It is such an honor to receive these incredible recognitions for the second year in a row,” said Julia Paolino, Director of the Arts and Drama Program Coordinator. “The Outstanding Ensemble award is especially moving for us, as it really embodies the spirit of our theatre program and demonstrates that every person — on stage and off — gave their all to produce such a wonderful production this past fall.”

Massimo Papa ’24 also earned an Outstanding Lead Performer award for his role as “Prince Eric” in St. Mary Academy – Bay View’s production of The Little Mermaid.

The Ocean State Star Awards program is designed to celebrate, support, and advocate for high school musical theatre education throughout Rhode Island. PPAC is dedicated to not only celebrating high school theater programs, but to recognizing the outstanding achievements of our state’s high school productions.

PPAC will present a Tony Awards-inspired showcase honoring the schools and students for artistic excellence in musical theatre on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at 7pm. All seven student award winners will perform in the showcase. Through this opportunity, participants can receive awards, scholarships, and perform on the PPAC stage as a part of that evening’s program. Tickets are available, here.
