ELF THE MUSICAL earns 22 Ocean State Star Awards nominations

PROVIDENCE, RI (December 17, 2024) – The Arts at Bishop Hendricken is proud to announce several nominations for its production of Elf The Musical as part of the 3rd Annual Ocean State Star Awards presented by the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC), including full company nominations for Outstanding Ensemble, Outstanding Technical Achievement, and Outstanding Orchestra.

The following individuals were nominated by a panel of PPAC adjudicators following performances of the musical in November:

  • Mia Costantino – Outstanding Lead Performer nomination
  • Maggie Peterson – Outstanding Lead Performer nomination, Outstanding Dance Performer nomination
  • Patrick Cavanagh ’25 – Outstanding Supporting Performer nomination, Outstanding Dance Performer nomination
  • McKenna Kampper – Outstanding Supporting Performer nomination
  • Keaton Wilk ’27 – Outstanding Acting Performer nomination
  • Sarah Burns – Outstanding Dance Performer nomination
  • Vincent Palazzo ’25 – Honorable Mention in Performance
  • Jacob Madriaga ’25 – Honorable Mention in Performance
  • Marina Cerullo – Outstanding Youth Performer nomination
  • Julia Paolino – Outstanding Director nomination
  • Brendan Lawrence ’18 – Outstanding Set Designer nomination
  • Christian Kabbas ’14 – Outstanding Lighting Designer nomination, Outstanding Sound Designer nomination, Outstanding Set Designer nomination
  • Essie Plouffe – Outstanding Set Designer nomination, Honorable Mention in Technical Achievement for Paint Treatment of Set
  • Caroline Kanaczet – Honorable Mention in Technical Achievement for Sound Mixing
  • Jackson Kretzer ’26 – Honorable Mention in Technical Achievement for Sound Mixing

“It is such an honor to be recognized for our performing, technical theatre, and music programs,” said Julia Paolino, Director of the Arts and Drama Program Coordinator. “Our company featured students from a diverse range of schools, age groups, abilities, and backgrounds, and these nominations serve as a reminder of the growth we strive for each day together. This production was truly a celebration not only of the holiday season, but also the importance of arts education in our school and community.”

Award winners in each category will be announced by PPAC in May from the pool of nominees from participating high school productions across Rhode Island and in parts of Massachusetts. In June, PPAC will present a Tony Awards-inspired showcase honoring the schools and students. At this awards ceremony, two top performers will be selected to represent Rhode Island at the 2025 National High School Musical Theatre Awards (The Jimmy Awards) in New York City this summer.

The Ocean State Star Awards program is designed to celebrate, support, and advocate for high school musical theatre education throughout Rhode Island. PPAC is dedicated to not only celebrating high school theatre programs, but to recognizing the outstanding achievements of the state’s high school productions.
