Mark DeCiccio ’03 announces new Mathematics, Theology department chairs

WARWICK, RI (August 6, 2024) – Today, Mark DeCiccio ’03, Principal, announced new department chair appointments for Mathematics and Theology for the 2024-2025 Academic Year beginning in the fall. New faculty member Jane Pontes will lead the Mathematics department, and Deacon John Regan will chair the Theology department.

“We are incredibly blessed to have Mrs. Pontes and Deacon Regan taking over their respective departments,” said DeCiccio. “I am excited to begin working closely with both of them to provide the best possible instruction to students in each subject. As a school, we are indebted to Susan Ryan and Deacon Gregory Albanese for their respective tenures as department chairs, and we look forward to continued excellence under this new leadership.”

Pontes takes over Mathematics following the well-deserved and hard-earned retirement of Susan Ryan after 51 years of dedicated service in education. Pontes joins the Bishop Hendricken faculty from Mount St. Charles Academy where she spent the past six years teaching. In 2022, Pontes earned the Companions on the Journey Award from the Diocese of Providence for her impact as an educator. Prior to Mount St. Charles, Pontes was a teacher at the Greater Woonsocket Catholic Regional School and St. Thomas Regional School. Pontes holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Providence College. She began her career as a corporate banker.

Deacon Regan takes over for Deacon Gregory Albanese who will be departing Bishop Hendricken. Entering his third year, Deacon Regan has taught sophomore Theology classes at all levels. Deacon Regan was ordained to the permanent diaconate in October 2020 and currently serves at St. Joseph Church in Woonsocket. Prior to joining the faculty at Hendricken, Deacon Regan spent a career in finance and asset-based banking, working for companies like Bank of America, The Washington Trust Company, and HSBC Bank. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in History and Economics from the University of Richmond, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Rhode Island, and a Master of Theological Studies from Providence College.
